The air in the 'Something Kind of Wonderful Marquee' was thick with anticipation as The Boomtown Rats, punk-rock legends, filed onto the stage. In the event, the Dun Laoghaire-born outfit proved emphatically that their bite is as fierce as ever. The legendary band gave a masterclass in raw energy, lyrical potency, and captivating showmanship. Make no mistake, Bob Geldof remains a truly mesmerising frontman, commanding the stage with ceaseless motion and a vigour – reminiscent of rock's greatest performers – that was enthralling to witness. His interaction with the crowd was engaging, punctuated by his characteristic self-deprecating humour and poignant social commentary. All told, the Rats delivered a superb set that will be remembered as one of the highlights of the festival.
