Mia Goth to star in Ti West's 80's slasher MaXXXine
Ti West concludes his X and Pearlhorror trilogy with Mia Goth
The end of Ti West's horror trilogy, which began with X and its prequel Pearl, arrives this summer with the release of MaXXXine. A24 dropped the official trailer on Monday, unveiling a dark look into 1980s Hollywood. While the film is set to hit cinemas on July 5, a date known for A24's successful horror releases, MaXXXine will be available in Irish cinemas on August 9.
Mia Goth reprises her role as Maxine Minx from X, the lone survivor of a tragic adult film shoot. The film’s official synopsis from A24 reads: “In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.”
Speaking to Variety, Goth shared, "It’s the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes, and Maxine has gone through so much at this point. So when we find her in this new world, she’s just a force to be reckoned with, and she goes through some pretty wild adventures."
The trilogy began with X, where a group of amateur filmmakers ventured into an isolated cabin. Pearl, the prequel, delved into the origin story of the cabin's owner, exploring her descent into darkness.
Director Ti West weaves elements of true crime and classic 1980s slashers into MaXXXine. The trailer hints at a stylish blend of Brian De Palma's suspense and the giallo style of Dario Argento.
MaXXXine's cast features Kevin Bacon, Bobby Cannavale, Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Lily Collins, Halsey, and Giancarlo Esposito. The film's soundtrack features hits like Animotion's 'Obsession' and Laura Brannigan's 'Self Control.'
